Otto J. Kohnke. Otto J. Kohnke, 82, died Monday night at his home in Remsen after a long illness.
He was born Feb 6, 1888, in Remsen and was a lifelong resident.
His marriage to Meta Griepenburg took place Feb. 23, 1911. The couple farmed south of Remsen until 1945 when they moved to Remsen. His first wife Meta died in 1949.
The couple's only son Raymond was killed in 1944 as a result of sniper fire in the South Pacific during world war 2.
Mr. Kohnke married Mrs. Mary Koch, Dec 27, 1951, and the couple continued to make their home in the Remsen area.
He was secretary of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran church for a number of years.
Surviving are his wife Mary of Remsen; four stepdaughters, Mrs. Ed Kendall in California; Mrs. John Schlerf, Baltimore, Md., Mrs. Arlene Letsche, Remsen, and Mrs. Marcel Beelner in Minnesota; one sister, Mrs. Fred Seel, Remsen; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, their son and two brothers, Henry and John.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran church, Remsen, with Rev. Paul Wuebben officiating. Burial will be in the Remsen cemetery.
