At the home of her daughter, Mrs. Albert Schneider, in this city at an early hour Sunday morning, occurred the death of Mrs. Henry Mullong. Mrs. Mullong had long been a sufferer from an Arganic trouble.
Mrs. Mullong was born in Eitelbrich, Luxemburg in 1854, and spent her childhood and youth there. She came to the United States in 1874 and in 1876 she was married to Mr. Henry Mullong at Dubuque, from which place they came to this county shortly after their marriage and engaged in farming near Remsen.
Six children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Mullong, all of whom with her husband, survive her. They are John and Peter Mullong, Mrs. Albert Schneider and Cecilia Mullong of this county and Dr. C. R. Mullong and Mrs. Chase of Sioux City.
Mrs. Mullong came to Le Mars some weeks ago for medical treatment and her last days were made easier by the tender loving care of her devoted daughter.
Mrs. Mulloong was a devoted wife and mother and enjoyed the love and esteem of a large circle of friends. The funeral services were conducted from St. Joseph's church in Le Mars yesterday morning at ten o'clock and a large concourse of sorrowing friends followed the remains to their last resting place." - Le Mars Globe-Post, Wednesday, April 21, 1909MRS. Mrs. Henry Mullong, one of the old and respected residents of Plymouth county, died at an early hour on Sunday morning at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Albert Schneider, in Le Mars. Her death was due to stomach trouble from which she suffered for several years. She came from her home at Remsen some weeks ago for medical treatment, and was staying with her daughter, who devotedly nursed her in her last illness. Mrs. Mullong was a native of the grand duchy of Luxembourg, Europe, having been born at Etlelbruck, in that country, on July 9, 1856. At the age of eighteen she came to the United States and two years later was united in marriage with Henry Mullong at Dubuque. They came to Plymouth county shortly after their marriage and located on a farm near Remsen, where they prospered and where their children grew up. Besides the bereaved husband she leaves six children. They are Mrs. Albert Schneider, John Mullong, Cecilia Mullong, Peter Mullong of this vicinity, and Mrs. Edward Chase and Dr. C. R. Mullong of Sioux City. The funeral will be held this morning at St. Joseph church in this city at 10 o'clock. Mrs. Mullong was devoted wife and mother, a good friend and neighbor, and her death is sincerely deplored by a large number of friends." - Le Mars Semi-Weekly Sentinel, Tuesday, April 20, 1909
"Mr. and Mrs. Henry Mullong who are separated by the too early demise of Mrs. Mullong were among the very earliest arrivals to this county, and perhaps the first to settle in Remsen township. Their daughter, Lilly, now Mrs. Albert Schneider of Le Mars, has the honor of being the first white child born in what is now known as Remsen township.
