Taps Sounded for Aged War Veteran

M.C. LOBDELL PASSES AWAY AT THE AGE OF 81 YEARS, 8 MONTHS AND 3 DAYS

M.C. [Marion] Lobdell, pioneer resident of this county and aged Civil War veteran, passed away at his home at 301 Central Ave., S.W. Tuesday morning at the age of 81 years, 8 months and 3 days. Heart trouble was given as the cause of death.

Mv, Lobdell was born in Brie county, N. Y., on March 8, 1845 and has been living in this county for 57 years .

At the age of 4 years, deceased came with his parents to Wisconsin, where they settled on a farm. He received his education in Wisconsin and when the Civil War broke out he served in Co. C , 22nd Wisconsin infantry. In 1868 he came to this county, settling in Elgin twp. This township was later divided and half of it, called Marion, in honor of Mr. Lobdell. He was united in marriage to Mary Evans in 1872, and in 1893 his beloved wife died. Mr. Lobdell remained on the farm until 1904 and then moved to LeMars, where he has been living ever since.

Two children were born to this union, who are Rowe Lobdell and Miss Lillian Lobdell of this city. Decdeased leaves three brothers: T.D. Lobdell, of White Lake, S.D., H. M. Lobdell of Pewaukee, Wisc.

The funeral will be held tomorrow afternoon at 2:30 from the M. E. church, Rev. F . E. Burgess officiating.

Burial will be made in the city cemetery. Beely's have charge of the funeral.

Mr. Lobdell was a member of the G. A. R. and the Masons, and has many friends who join with the relatives in mourning his loss.
