7-4-1896OBITUARY
Ernest Pape was ushered into this world in the province of Saxony, Halberstad, Prussia, December 26, 1820 and died at the residence of his nephew, William Pape, near Hinton, June 30, 1896 at the age of 75 years, 6 months and 4 days. Mr. Pape came to this country in 1852 and settled in Kewaunee county , Wis. From which place he enlisted during the civil war and severed ten months under General Sherman. In the year 1878 he came to Iowa and has been a resident ever since of Plymouth County. He has been in indifferent health for the past four years and the past spring found him failing rapidly and getting much worse in the las few weeks. He was afflicted with rheumatism and Bright’s disease complicated with heart trouble which caused his demise. Mr. Pape was one of five children; all of whom have preceded him to the spirit world. He leaves many friends and relatives to mourn his departure. He Pape had been raised in th e Protestant faith and was a member of the Lutheran church. The funeral services were held at the home of Mr. Pape on Wednesday and were largely attended and the remains interred at the Rademacher [Hungerford Township] cemetery, Rev. P. Belzer, of Melbourne officiating.
