When on this Thursday morning, January 23rd, report was circulated, "Henry Sievers is dead," it came to everyone as an unpleasant, pain giving shock. Henry was not sick. He retired on Wednesday evening in his usual condition, but in less than five minutes later, about 10:45 o'clock, apoplexy stopped the functions of his heart forever, and his sudden and unexpected demise is a severe blow to his family and friends, toward whom he has always been loyal, generous and loving. Henry Sievers was one of the pioneer residents of Remsen, having moved here in 1881, and he always took great interest in the welfare and growth of his western home. He was a careful and attentive business man and succeeded in laying by a goodly share of wealth for his and his families' comfort. Henry was born in Elmshorn, in Schleswig, Holstein, Germany, on the 25th day of May, 1845. He came to America in 1860 and located in Davenport. Later he resided for a time in Benton county and gave his heart and hand to Miss Louise Schnell who survives him. Their union was blessed with eight children, of whom five live to mourn with their mother, the loss of an excellent husband and father. The children are Mrs. Louise Post, Estherville; Miss Lena, William, George and Frank at home. Funeral two p. m., Saturday, January 25th.
