Marcus, Iowa – Anna E. Horn, 91, of Marcus, Iowa passed away on Friday, August 15, 2008 at the Heartland Care Center in Marcus. Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, August 18, 2008 at Holy Name Catholic Church in Marcus, Iowa. Father Eugene Murray will officiate. Burial will follow at St. Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery in Sheldon, Iowa. Visitation will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 17, 2008 at the Earnest – Johnson Funeral Home of Marcus. There will be a Rosary Service at 3:00 p.m. followed by a Scriptural Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. There will also be one hour of visitation at the church on Monday prior to Mass.

Anna Edith Horn was born on a farm near Granville, Iowa, on November 26, 1916, the third of ten children of Edward A. and Kathryn (Schlichte) Schnoes. She was raised in the Granville area, attending both rural country schools as well as St. Joseph Catholic in Granville. In the early years of the depression she worked as a housekeeper for various families in the Sioux County area. In the middle 1930s she moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota. Initially working as a housekeeper in Minneapolis, she eventually went to work at Honeywell Manufacturing, employed in the assembly of various consumer as well as military mechanical and electronic control systems. She remained with Honeywell until 1969. On July 1, 1950, she married Lee Beacom, a former native of Sioux County, who was then employed in Minneapolis. Lee died on December 17, 1966.

Annie subsequently met Andrew W. Horn, a retired military officer, in Minneapolis, and they were married on June 28, 1969. Shortly thereafter they moved to Lawton, Oklahoma, to be near Fort Sill Army Base. For the next few years Annie and Andy traveled fairly extensively throughout the country and enjoyed their time in Oklahoma. Unfortunately, Andy died on March 29, 1976.

In 1977, after Andy's death, Annie moved to Marcus, Iowa to be near family. She lived with her sister Rose until Rose's death in July of 1999. Her interests since she has been back in this area have largely been related to family activities, social gatherings with friends, and church affairs. She was a member of Holy Name Catholic Church, St. Anne's Guild, Catholic Daughters of America chapter, and Missionary Association, and was one of the last surviving active members of Marcus Senior Citizens. Annie has been a resident of Heartland Care Center since December 14, 2006.

She will be lovingly remembered by her brothers Leo Schnoes and his wife Jane of Sioux City, Iowa and James Schnoes and his wife Mary of Coralville, Iowa; a sister-in-law Dorothy Schnoes of Marcus, Iowa; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two spouses Lee and Andrew; five sisters Viola Schnoes, Florence Schnoes, Margie Schnoes, Minnie McClintock and Rose Schnoes; and two brothers Ed and Raymond Schnoes.
