Le Mars, Iowa – Maxine D. Gintert, 90, of Le Mars, Iowa passed away on Wednesday, December 30, 2009 at the Plymouth Manor Care Center in Le Mars, Iowa. Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 9, 2010 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Le Mars. Rev. Kevin Richter will officiate. Burial will follow at St. Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery in Sheldon, Iowa. Visitation will begin at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, January 8, 2010 at the Mauer – Johnson Funeral Home of Le Mars, Iowa. There will be a Scriptural Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. There will also be one hour of visitation on Saturday at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church prior to Mass.

Maxine Delores Murphy was born on November 8, 1919 in Matlock, Iowa to Daniel and Ella (Wilson) Murphy. Maxine graduated from Sheldon High School.

On May 28, 1942 Maxine and Donald A. Gintert were united in marriage at Camp Junction, Kansas while Donald was serving in the United States Army. During the World War II Maxine worked as “Rosie the Riveter” in California building military aircraft. Following the war, Maxine and Donald made their home in Sheldon, Iowa and Luverne, Minnesota where Maxine was a homemaker and Donald managed grocery stores.

The family moved to Le Mars, Iowa and the couple owned and operated the Town and Country Drive Inn. Maxine and Donald later opened the Club Café and Catering. They operated the restaurant together for 30 years. During their retirement years they spent winters in Mesa, Arizona.

Maxine was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Le Mars. She enjoyed bowling, playing in bridge groups, and golfing. Summers were spent with the family at their Lake Okoboji cabin.

Maxine will be lovingly remembered by her children and their spouses: Mary and Neil Boehmer of Le Mars, IA, Mike Gintert of Santa Fe, New Mexico, Patty and Rod Clark of Bend, OR, and Joe and Kathy Gintert of Henderson, NV; four grandchildren Aaron and Alicyn Boehmer of Columbia, MO, Ryan and Becky Boehmer of Le Mars, IA, Alison and Drew Bickford of Le Mars, IA, and David Gintert of Henderson, NV; five great-grandchildren Nathan, Collin, Nolan, Benjamin and Alyssa Boehmer; sisters Ruth Elliot of Le Mars, IA and Dorothy Wright of Iowa Falls, IA; sisters-in-law Beverly Garman of Allen, TX, Alta Ruby of Sheldon, IA and Gen Murphy of Le Mars, IA; a brother-in-law and his wife Roger and Norma Gintert of Santa Cruz, CA.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Donald on February 1, 2003; a sister Helen Haakinson; brothers Les and Roy Murphy; and brothers-in-law Dr. Larry Elliot, Carl Ruby and Don Garman, Burt Wright and Burdette Haakinson.
