Velma Geister
(Died September 6, 2006)Marcus, Iowa – Velma Geister, 82, of the Happy Siesta Nursing Home in Remsen, Iowa passed away on Wednesday, September 6, 2006 at the nursing home following a lengthy illness. Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, September 9, 2006 at the Holy Name Catholic Church in Marcus, Iowa. Father Eugene Murray will officiate. Burial will follow at the parish cemetery. Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday at Holy Name Catholic Church with a Rosary Service to be held at 9:30 a.m. The Earnest – Rohde Funeral Home of Marcus is in charge of arrangements.
Velma Charlotte Cook was born on June 8, 1924 in Marcus, Iowa, the daughter of Henry and Agnes (Niehus) Cook. She graduated from Holy Name High School in Marcus with the class of 1943. Following her education Velma worked at Nagle’s Dress Shop. She would later work for the Federal Bureau of Investigation in Washington, D.C. as a fingerprint analyst.
Velma returned to Iowa and married Garland Geister at Holy Name Catholic Church on June 2, 1948. The couple farmed in the Quimby and Anthon, Iowa areas before moving to Cherokee, Iowa in 1967. They later lived in Longmont, Colorado and Douglas, Wyoming, where Garland passed away on September 11, 1982. Velma would move to Jackson, Wyoming and Longmont, Colorado before becoming a resident at the Fonda (Iowa) Care Center. On July 3, 2000 she moved to the Happy Siesta Nursing Home in Remsen.
She will be lovingly remembered by her children Grant Geister and his wife Linda of Sioux Falls, SD, Gary Geister and his wife Dorothy of Carroll, Iowa, Allan Geister and Lynn Geister of Seattle, WA, Annette Geister, Lisa Milner and Lori Geister all of Longmont, CO; 12 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a brother Roger Cook of Pierson, IA, a sister Nancy Pick and her husband Cliff of Le Mars, IA; a sister-in-law Rita Cook of Granville, IA; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter-in-law Dorothy; a brother Clark; two sisters Mary and Arvey; and a sister-in-law Lona.
