Milton “Swede” Anderson, 84, of Akron, Iowa passed away Tuesday, February 1, 2011 at the Akron Care Center in Akron.

Funeral Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, February 5, 2011 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, E.L.C.A. in Akron. Reverend Dawn Quame will officiate. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery in Akron. Visitation will be after 3:00 p.m. Friday, February 4, 2011, with the family present after 5:00 p.m., and a Prayer service at 7:00 p.m., all at Carlsen Funeral Home – Schroeder Chapel in Akron.

Milton John Anderson was born March 28, 1926 on the family farm southeast of Akron, the son of Ernest and Anna (Johnson) Anderson. He was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Akron. He attended Tucker Country School and later high school in Akron. He graduated from Akron High School in 1943. As a young man, he began helping his father on the farm. Following his schooling, he continued farming southeast of Akron.

He was united in marriage to Mary Moen on January 13, 1951 in Inwood, Iowa. Swede and Mary continued to farm and raise livestock. After retiring from farming, Swede continued in the poultry confinement business until retiring in 1998. Through the years, Swede and Mary loved to travel in the states and also visit relatives in Norway and Sweden. In April of 2006, Swede and Mary became residents of the Akron Care Center. Mary passed away June 6, 2007.

Swede was a lifelong member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, having volunteered and served in several capacities through the years. He and Mary were the church custodians for many years and were active in the YoMaCo’s. Swede served on the Akron School board for 14 years and he and Mary were supporters of many school activities. He enjoyed bowling many years in Monday night league. Swede’s passion in life was farming and he loved to be outside, working and maintaining his farm. His quick wit and smile will always be remembered.

Survivors include his children: Mark Anderson (Sue) of Mankato, MN, Morey Anderson of Akron, Melissa Utesch (Steve) of Marcus, IA, and Merrilee Easton (Rick) of Westfield, IA; 8 grandchildren: Shawna Anderson of St. Cloud, MN, Nick Utesch of Jersey City, NJ, Bryan Utesch (Colleen) of Chicago, IL, Sarah Bird (Brent) of Omaha, NE, Tanner Utesch of Marcus, IA, Tyler Easton of Akron, Spc. Brad Easton, stationed in Afghanistan, and Nathan Easton of Westfield, IA; a brother: Stanley Anderson (Janet) of Akron; a sister in law: Martha Mae Anderson of Akron; many in laws, nieces, nephews, and cousins; and his special companion, “Sparky”.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mary; two brothers: Henry and Russell Anderson; and a sister: Laverne Dowling.
