Dwayne J. Erks, 82

Dwayne J. Erks a longtime resident of Rio Rancho, NM, passed away Jan. 16, 2011, with his loving family by his side.

A Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 19, at Daniels Family Funeral Services, 4310 Sara Road SE, Rio Rancho, NM. Interment with military honors will follow at Vista Verde Memorial Park, Rio Rancho, NM. Pallbearers will be Eric Williams, Peter Sype, Dan Williams, Rachel Williams, Alyssa Williams, and Russell Sype.

Dwayne was born Dec. 17, 1928, to John and Mathilda (Schmidt) Erks of Akron. He was raised on the family's farm in Iowa where he developed his strong work ethic.

He served our country in the U.S. Army from 1951 until 1953. Dwayne then began his career in the newspaper industry by working for the Sioux City Journal. He then moved to the El Paso Times.

Dwayne will be remembered as a loving and dedicated husband, father and grandfather. Dwayne was a kind and patient man with great integrity. In his life, he had passion for traveling the country, researching his rich family history, photography, and creating metal art.
