JOSEPH MATTHEW
Funeral services for Joseph W. Matthew, 79, of rural LeMars, who died late Thursday at his home in Seney after several days of sickness, were at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Seney Methodist church.
Rev. R. F. John and Rev. Gene Cannaday officiated. Burial was in Oak Hill cemetery at Cherokee, Ia., under direction of the Mauer Funeral Home of LeMars.
Mr. Matthew was born May 4, 1878, at Platteville, Wis. He came to Iowa as a young man and settled near Cherokee where he lived a number of years.
He moved to South Dakota and farmed in that state for 25 years. In 1943, he came to the LeMars vicinity and farmed near Seney for two years. He retired about 1945.
Mr. Matthew married Alice E. Gesland April 8, 1903, at Cherokee.
Survivors are the widow; two daughters, Mrs. Opal Gatzke of LeMars and Mrs. Shirley Amick of Milwaukee; a sister, Mrs. Mary Healles of Berwyn, Ill., and 10 grandchildren.
