Annie Hennigs
(July 10, 1915 - January 3, 2011)Le Mars, Iowa – Annie Hennigs, 95, of Le Mars, Iowa passed away on Monday, January 3, 2011 at her home. Funeral services will take place 2:00 p.m. on Friday, January 7, 2011 at Christ Lutheran Church (Grant Township), rural Le Mars, Iowa. Rev. Mike Schmidt will officiate. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. Visitation will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 6, 2011 at the Mauer – Johnson Funeral Home of Le Mars. The family will be present from 6-8 p.m. with a prayer service scheduled at 7:30 p.m. Visitation will resume at 1:00 p.m. on Friday at the church.
Annie Minna Christine Ludwigs was born on July 10, 1915 on the family farm in Grant Township, Plymouth County, Iowa. She was the oldest of four children born to Otto D. and Tena (Hartmann) Ludwigs. Annie was baptized as an infant and Confirmed on April 12, 1930 at Christ Lutheran Church in Grant Township. She attended country school and completed two years of Christian Training at Christ Lutheran Church. While growing up, Annie worked hard helping her family on the farm.
On January 8, 1936 Annie and Oscar Beitelspacher were united in marriage. They were blessed with three daughters, Rosetta, Irene and Dorothy Ann. The couple farmed for a few years before Oscar became ill and passed away on August 24, 1940. Annie leased the farm and she and her girls moved to her parents’ home.
Annie met Edward Plueger at a dance in Craig, Iowa and later married him on February 11, 1945. Together they had two children, Evelyn and Edwin. The couple farmed for a few years on the Plueger farm and later on the Beitelspacher farm until 1966. Annie and Edward moved to Le Mars where Annie took a position with the Le Mars Hatchery and then at Harkers. Edward passed away on August 6, 1976.
On July 21, 1979 Annie married Hilbert Hennigs. Annie retired from Harkers in 1983 after working there 16 years. During their retirement years they took at three week tour of Europe where they visited relatives. Hilbert passed away on February 5, 1994.
Annie was a lifelong member of Christ Lutheran Church. She was also a member of the Senior Center in Le Mars where she enjoyed playing Pinochle. Annie also enjoyed playing Bingo.
She will be lovingly remembered by her children, Rosetta Borchers of Sioux City, IA, Dorothy (Larry) Grasz of Le Mars, IA and Evelyn (Edwin) Oltmanns of Des Moines, IA; step-children Dale Hennigs of Le Mars, IA and Bettyann Haring of Colorado; grandchildren Sandra Murphy, Brad Borchers, Barrie Borchers, Vickie Schaiffer, Dan Hanson, David Hanson, Suzie Sibley, Lisa Bogh, Kelvin Grasz, Alan Grasz, Linda Bukowski and Irwin Oltmanns; seven step-grandchildren; great-grandchildren Ben and Brian Erickson, Alicia Moore, Nick Murphy, Amanda, Holly and Jacob Borchers, Ricky and Sheryl Schaiffer, Katie Hanson, Vince, Gina, Jason and Philip Bogh, Marissa Van Fleet, Megan and Kaitlyn Bukowski, Paige, Isabella and Addison Oltmanns; four great-great-grandchildren, Haley, Addison and Tegan Bogh and Brooklyn Moore; and several step-great and great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three spouses, Oscar, Edward and Hilbert; a daughter, Irene Hanson; a son, Edwin Plueger; a step-son Lloyd Hennigs; brothers, Norman and Alfred Ludwigs; and a sister Minnie (Mrs. Lawrence) Renken.
