Don D. Dickman was born October 15, 1925 in Brunsville, Iowa, the son Floyd and Katherine (Harms) Dickman. Don was baptized and confirmed at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Brunsville. He attended elementary school in Brunsville and graduated from Le Mars Central High School in 1943. He served his country in the United States Navy during World War II from 1943 until his Honorable Discharge in May of 1946. Upon his return from the service, Don enrolled in college at Western Union College in Le Mars. Don was united in marriage to Imogene Pendelton on August 13, 1950 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Le Mars. Later that year, Don began his career in banking with Farmer’s State Bank in Brunsville and later accepted a position with the Farmer’s State Bank in Merrill where he continued until his retirement after 43 years of service in 1993.

Through his years in the banking industry, Don was very civic minded. He had served for several years as the Merrill City Clerk, volunteered with the Merrill Fire Department, longtime member of the Merrill Lions Club, and served on the Church Council of St. John Lutheran Church.

Don and Imogene enjoyed traveling throughout the United States. They had wintered in Yuma, Arizona, and South Padre Island, Texas for several winters. They also enjoyed their summer home at Lake Okoboji for over 25 years. Don enjoyed going fishing; especially for catfish and his many trips to Canada. He also enjoyed watching sports; particularly the Iowa Hawkeyes, Chicago Cubs, and St. Louis Cardinals. He was an avid gardener and in later years his neighbors assisted, to allow him to continue. Most of all, he enjoyed being with his family.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Imogene of Merrill; 2 children, a son, Doug Dickman and his wife Janelle of Sioux City and their children: Thea (John) Volk of Chicago, Alisha (Preston) Schnoor of Denver, Amanda Dewey of Cedar Falls, and Haley Dickman of Denver, and a daughter, Vickie Konz and her husband Marcel of Oyens and their daughter Krista (Nathan) Peters and their son Drake of Waukee, IA; a sister, Doris Brooks of Le Mars; a brother, Gene Dickman of Le Mars; a sister-in-law, Donna Rae Cornish and her husband Don of Ireton; and several nieces and nephews.
