Source unknown, but it reads like it is from the Remsen newspaper.

The citizens of Remsen were shocked on Tuesday afternoon, June 21, to learn of the death of Henry C. Sievers, eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Sievers of this city, which occurred at a hospital in Sioux City at 12:45 on that day.

The sad news was passed from lip to lip and deep sorrow was manifest upon the countenance of every citizen. Though a young man of a little over 21 years of age Henry had won for himself the confidence and high esteem of all with whom he came in contact in a social and business way.

On the 25th of June, 1894, Henry entered the employ of the Farmers Loan & Trust Co., who operate a bank here, and remained with the corporation up to the time of his death. Until one year ago he occupied the position as assistant cashier in the bank at his place; when for faithful service rendered [can’t read the next few words] a more lucrative position as one of the head book-keepers at the main office in Sioux City, where he made an enviable record for himself and was universally loved and esteemed by his employers and co-workers in that institution.

On last Sunday he was taken violently ill and on Monday afternoon his parents were notified of his illness, who went to Sioux City at once to give him their personal care and attention.

His suffering was caused from appendicitis for which an operation was performed Monday evening and his death occurred at the time previously stated.

Henry C. Sievers was a native of Iowa, having been born at Luzerne, Benton county, March 21, 1877, being aged 21 years and 3 months. In the early 80’s he, with his parents, moved to Remsen, Plymouth county, where he received his early education in the public schools. In ‘94 he graduated from the Northwestern Normal School and Business College at Le Mars with high honors, soon after which he became a faithful and trusted employ of the Farmers Loan & Trust Co., of which previous mention has been made. He was in every sense an expert accountant and his ability was soon recognized by the company for which he labored.

During his residence here he was an enthusiastic and never tiring working member of the Remsen band and the Remsen Fire department and those who were associated with him in these organizations feel keenly his loss.

He was a son such as a mother might well feel proud of and for whom a father might look with pardonable pride at his achievements so early in life. His presence at home meant joy and pleasure for the family. His love and affection for those dear to him, father, mother, brothers and sisters, were made [one line unreadable] mourn his loss and THE BELL joins the entire community in extending sympathy and condolence to the bereaved.

Relatives from abroad who are present to attend the funeral are Mrs. Wm. Post, sister of the deceased, of Estherville, Iowa; Aug. Schnell, Rockwell City, Iowa; and Geo. Bacher of Waverly, Iowa.

James F. Toy, president of the Farmers Loan & Trust Co., is also in the city to attend the funeral and pay his last mark of esteem to a departed trusted employee.

The floral offering were numerous and many beautiful designs of rare flowers, speak out the esteem in which he was had. Notable among the floral tribute was that sent by the officers and employees of the F. L. & Trust company of Sioux City, also a fine floral tribute of a ladder made of beautiful roses and greens and a beautiful bouquet offered with sympathies by the Remsen Fire department.

The funeral was held from the house to the Lutheran church, of which deceased was a member, where the services will be conducted by Rev. Brueggemann. The funeral will occur this [Thursday] afternoon. The pall bearers are: Geo. Kramer, Geo. Kieffer, Ed. Breiholz, Ed. Hoeck, W. J. Kass and Nic Hoffmann.
