Marcus, Iowa – Georgina M. Flanagan, 95, of Marcus, Iowa, passed away Sunday morning, February 14, 2010, at the Floyd Valley Hospital in Le Mars, Iowa.

Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, February 18, 2010, at the Holy Name Catholic Church in Marcus, with Rev. Armand J. Bertrand officiating. Interment will be in the Holy Name Parish Cemetery in Marcus, Iowa. Visitation will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 17, 2010 at the Earnest-Johnson Funeral Home in Marcus. The rosary will be recited at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday followed by a Scriptural Prayer service beginning at 7:00 p.m. The visitation will continue at the Holy Name Catholic Church at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday.

Georgina Mary Flanagan, the daughter of Mary Ellen (McKone) and George Wilkie, was born on April 1, 1914, in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. At an early age, Georgina’s family moved to Quimby, Iowa. She attended schools in Cherokee and graduated from the Immaculate Conception High School. While attending a dance in Remsen, Georgina met her future husband, Paul James Flanagan. The couple was united in marriage in Sioux City, Iowa, on February 15, 1943. Georgina and Paul lived and farmed north of Marcus until 1970, at which time, they made the decision to move into town.

They lived at the Nelson-Earnest Funeral Home (now Earnest-Johnson Funeral Home), and assisted at the funeral home for several years until they retired in 1989. Georgina was a devoted member of the Holy Name Catholic Church and the St. Ann’s Guild in Marcus. She also enjoyed playing cards with the ladies of the Tuesday Bridge Club, dancing, traveling, and dining out. Georgina is survived by her brother-in-law, Ray Flanagan of Marcus; several nieces and nephews and her special friends and caregivers. Preceding Georgina in death, is her valentine of 66 years, Paul J. Flanagan; her parents, George and Mary Ellen Wilkie; and her sister-in-law, Elaine Flanagan.
