The tragic accident occurred at the farm of the children's grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Dunham, about eight miles west of town, where the boys had gone with their parents after attending Sunday school at Immanuel Lutheran church in this city. Also present to spend the day were Mr. and Mrs. Robert Crow and three sons, aged 6, 11, and 12. Mrs. Friske and Mrs. Crow are daughters of Mr. and Mrs. Dunham.

All five of the boys went to the dry creek bed in a nearby ravine to play. Suddenly a large chunk of earth on a 14 foot bank gave away and crashed down onto the two Friske boys and barely missed their three young cousins. The Crow boys tried to assist Jimmie and Paul and then ran to the Dunham home for help. Members of the families rushed to the scene and administered first aid, but soon the sad fact was apparent that the boys were beyond human aid. Jimmie had suffered a fractured skull and Paul a crushed chest by the heavy chunks. They were not covered the slide. The accident was investigated by Sheriff S. J, Bjork and Coroner Anderson of Union County.

James LeRoy Friske was born August 16, 1947, and died September 16, 1956, aged 9 years and 1 month, Paul Arthur Friske was born July 28, 1950, and died September 16, 1956, aged 6 years, 1 month and 24 days. They had resided here all their lives with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Friske, and were their only children.

The parents, grandparents, and other relatives have the heartfelt sympathy of the entire community in this sad and sudden bereavement.

Double funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Rev. David J. Roy officiating. Mrs. Milton Anderson say, “What a Friend We Have In Jesus” and “Children of the Heavenly Father.” Mrs. H. Shoulberg was accompanist. Casket bearers for James were Vernon Hasenbank, Donald Hoffman, Wilbur Hasenbank, Rodney Willms, Calvin Dunham and Donald Dunham, and honorary bearers were Sandra Bean, Anita Anderson, Terry Jacobs, Arthur Finzen, Casket bearers for Paul were Jean Hillrichs, Mary Ann Halk, Caroline Hasenbank, Rhonda Willms, Dixie Pefferman and Donna Crow, and honorary bearers Were Linda Nygard,, Nancy Klemme, Lonnie Schuchard and Jimmy Huls.
