Marcus, Iowa- Marguerite J. Pearson, 87, of Marcus, Iowa, passed away early Wednesday morning, June 24, 2009, at the Happy Siesta Care Center in Remsen, Iowa.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 27, 2009, at the Faith Lutheran Church in Marcus with Pastor Liz Pfeifle officiating. Interment will be in the Marcus-Amherst Cemetery in Marcus. The visitation will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, June 26, 2009, with the family present after 5:00 p.m. and a prayer service scheduled for 7:30 p.m., all at the Earnest-Johnson Funeral Home in Marcus, Iowa. The visitation will continue at the Faith Lutheran Church on Saturday, one hour prior to Marguerite’s service.

Marguerite June Pearson, the daughter of John and Margarete (Schrier) Viken, was born May 19, 1922, in Sioux City, Iowa. She was baptized at Trinity Lutheran Church in Sioux City and later, confirmed at the Carmel Lutheran Church in Marcus. Marguerite attended schools in Sioux City and graduated from Central High School in 1939. On June 1, 1940 in Sioux City, Marguerite was united in marriage to Clarence M. Pearson. The couple became the proud parents of five children. Marguerite’s greatest joy and priority was tending to her home and busy family. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother! Area residents may recall that Marguerite was employed at Dr. Hobson’s Chiropractic Clinic in Marcus for a span of time in the late 1960s. Marguerite was a member of the Faith Lutheran Church and WELCA in Marcus. In her earlier years, she enjoyed playing on the women’s golf and bowling leagues. Marguerite’s family state that she was a great cook and baker and that her thin German pancakes and fresh rye bread, were the family favorites! She also loved solving word find puzzles, crocheting, sewing, flower and vegetable gardening, canning, playing games of chance at area casinos, playing cards with her friends and family, and crafting with Gert. In her later years, Marguerite treasured her time with Clarence! They spent numerous winters together in Arizona and frequently went antiquing. Marguerite was always in search of new pieces to add to her collection of dishes and glassware. Marguerite’s caring, kind, feisty and playful personality will be dearly missed by all who have shared in her life!

She is survived by her husband of 69 years, Clarence Pearson of Marcus; her children, Clarence Pearson, “Jr.” and his wife, Sue of Marcus, Jim Pearson and his wife, Betty of Marcus, Bev Schomaker and her husband, Steve of Cedar Falls, IA, Dennis Pearson of Marcus and Jan Puhrmann and her husband, Leon of Paullina, IA; her half-sister, Betty and Al Griese of Sioux City; her two half-brothers, John and Darlene Viken of Wakefield, NE and Harvey and Donna Viken of Sioux City; 13 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren and numerous other relatives and friends. Preceding Marguerite in death are her parents; two infant brothers; her sister, Gertrude Lynn; her step-mother, Marion Viken; one granddaughter, Shelly Marie Pearson and one step-grandson, Brad Eckhoff.
