Le Mars, Iowa – Robert L. Anderson, 79, of Le Mars, Iowa passed away on Monday, April 9, 2007 at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Funeral services will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 13, 2007 at the Mauer – Johnson Funeral Home of Le Mars. Rev. Greg Gabriel of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Le Mars will officiate. Military honors will be provided by Wasmer Post #241 of the American Legion. Burial will follow at Logan Cemetery in Sioux City, Iowa at a later date. Visitation will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home. The family will be present from 6-8 pm. with a prayer service scheduled for 7:00 p.m. Visitation will resume at 9:00 a.m. on Friday at the funeral home.

Robert Lloyd Anderson was born on March 20, 1928 in Sioux City, Iowa, the son of Lloyd Oliver and Dorothy Lorraine (Disbrow) Anderson. He was raised in Sioux City and attended Central High School until enlisting in the United States Coast Guard – Merchant Marines on September 7, 1944. He later received his honorable discharge and a few years later enlisted in the United States Navy. After receiving an honorable discharge from the Navy on August 12, 1946 he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. He received his last honorable discharge on February 13, 1950.

After Bob’s service to his country he returned to Sioux City. He married Evelyn Mae Hansen on July 10, 1950. Bob found work as an officer with the Sioux City Police Department. He and his family later moved to Los Angeles, California where he began work with the Los Angeles Police Department. He was struck by a hit and run driver during an investigation and was forced to retire from the department. It was then that he began work at a movie studio in Hollywood as a security guard. He met many actors and thoroughly enjoyed his position.

After several years in California, Bob and his family returned to northwest Iowa. They lived in various towns before settling in Sioux City. Bob worked as a security guard and bartender at various businesses. He would later move to Le Mars, Iowa and tended bar at the Eagles Club.

Bob was a member of the Abu-Bekr Shrine in Sioux City, the Fraternal Order of the Eagles in Le Mars, and Wasmer Post #241 of the American Legion in Le Mars. He enjoyed reading, watching movies, fishing, and was an avid Miami Dolphins fan. His family recalls that he was always busy doing something and will miss his uplifting spirit and positive attitude.

He will be lovingly remembered by his five daughters; Cyndi (Paul) Wiebersch of Marcus, IA, Barb Hendershot of Vacaville, CA, Pam (Bucky) Tentinger of Marcus, IA, Diana (Jon) Draper of Marcus, IA, and Patti (Dennis) Heath of Mesquite, TX; 13 grandchildren; 9 great-great grandchildren; his significant other and best friend Hazel Foresmoe of Sioux City, IA; and his cat Buddy.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Bob was a caring and giving person; he continued that in death through the gift of organ and tissue donation.
