Mrs. J. J. Aalfs Came To Plymouth County From Austria In Early Youth

The death of Mrs. J. J. Aalfs at her home, west of town, in Union County, S.D., brings sorrow to her many friends in this vicinity. Mrs. Aalfs had been in failing health for about two years. About a year ago she was a patient in the Akron Hospital and received treatment over a period of something like three months, during a part of which time her life was despaired of; but she recovered and was in fairly good health until a few weeks ago, when illness again overtook her, and in spite of all that care and medical skill could accomplish, she passed away Tuesday evening, August 10, 1943, at the age of 72 years and 24 days.

Anna Wetrosky was born July 17, 1871, in Austria. She came to America with her parents and grandparents when she was three years old. They settled on a farm about eleven miles southeast of LeMars, where she grew to womanhood. She was united in marriage with J. J. Aalfs on January 18, 1891. To this union five children were born, all of whom survive their mother. They are: John, of Humboldt,. S.D.; Clarence, of Akron; Mrs. Edna Trindle, of Meade, Nebr.; Clifford and Lester, of Sioux City, Iowa. Mr. and Mrs. Aalfs moved to this community in the spring of 1893 and have lived in Akron and vicinity most of the time since.

Mrs. Aalfs joined the Akron Methodist church on March 30, 1913, during the pastorate of Rev. Robt. Lee Stuart, and has been a faithful and consistent member ever since. A kind and devoted wife and mother, a helpful neighbor and a valued friend, she will be missed and mourned in the community where she has lived so many years. A host of friends extend sympathy to the bereaved husband and children.

Funeral services were held this (Thursday) afternoon at 2 o’clock in the Akron Methodist church, conducted by Rev. Willard Bell, Methodist pastor at Hawarden. Mrs. Hugh Chamberlain sang, with accompaniment by Mrs. Pearl Pollock. Interment was in Riverside Cemetery.

Acting as pallbearers were Chas. McConville, Frank Coyle, H. Shoulberg, Olof Johnson, Max Pollock and Otis Maynard.
