CLARENCE AALFS CALLED BY DEATH LAST THURSDAY
Rites Held Monday For A Well-Known Akron Resident

After an extended illness, the final summons came to a widely-known Akron resident, Clarence J. Aalfs, last Thursday in a Sioux City hospital, where he had been taken for treatment only a few days previously. He was 67 years, 6 months and 4 days of age.

Clarence J. Aalfs, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jacob J. Aalfs, was born in Plymouth County August 3, 1895, and farmed in this area all of his life. On January 12, 1916, he was united in marriage with Miss Ida Boden, of Akron. He was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic church here. A host of friends extend sympathy to the bereaved relatives. He was held in high regard by all who knew him.

Survivors in addition to the widow include three sons, Wayne of Santa Ana, Calif.; Phillip, of Chico, Calif., and Richard, of Sioux City; a daughter, Mrs. Margene Barbolak, of Anaheim, Calif.; a sister, Mrs. Edna Trindle of Escondido, Calif.; three brothers, John, of Humboldt, S.D.; Lester, of Watertown, S.D.; and Clifford, of Blackwell, Okla.; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Funeral services were held in St. Patrick’s Catholic church here Monday morning, Rev. Leander Friedman, of Hawarden, officiating. Active pallbearers were Ross Root, Oscar Mentzer, Arthur Voss, J. H. Earnest, Everett Coyle and Walter Johnson. Honorary pallbearers were Robert Voss, J. E. Dalton, P. W. Harrington, H. P. Anderson, Wm. Popken and Walter Searls. Interment was in the Catholic cemetery.

Relatives in attendance at the funeral from a distance were the sons, Wayne, of Santa Ana, Calif., Philip of Chico, Calif., and Richard, of Sioux City; the daughter, Mrs. Margene Barbolak, of Anaheim, Calif.; and two brothers, Lester, of Watertown, S.D., and Clifford, of Blackwell, Okla.
