BERTHA ERIKSON CALLED BY DEATH LAST THURSDAY
Rites Held Monday For Esteemed Local Farm Resident
Mrs. Bertha T. Erikson, a resident of Plymouth County many years, southeast of Akron, departed this life on Thursday, December 3, 1964, at St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington, Kentucky following an illness of only a few day. She was 79 years, 2 months and 27 day of age.
Bertha Theresia Olsson was born in Goteborg Lan, Sweden, September 6, 1885. Her parents were Mr. and Mrs. Bengt Olsson. During her childhood she came to the United States, locating in the midwest.
On October 19,-1904, she was united in marriage with August G. Erikson in Sioux City, and they began farming in the Adaville area in this county. When the Immanuel Lutheran church was organized September 30, 1910, she and her husband became charter members. She had been an active and interested member of Immanuel throughout the 54 years since that time. She, in various ways during recent years, kept in touch with her church wherever she might be, and showed her appreciation of what her church meant to and did for her.
She enjoyed life and people and in her own characteristic way seemed to cause her many friends also to receive a special zest from life.
Among those who survive to mourn her departure are: her five daughters, Mrs. Valda McGarry of Sioux City, Mrs. Grace Buebre of Le Mars, Mm Pearl Robbins of Lexington, Ky., Mrs. Ruth Cole of Phoenix, Arizona, and Mrs. Bertha Crandall of Sioux City; her two sons, Ted of Spencer, Iowa, and Vance of Sloan, Iowa; her tern grandchildren; her fourteen great-grand children:; her sister, Mrs. Anna Johnson, of Sioux City; other relatives and1 many friends.
Her husband, who died, November 17, 1941, and her sister in Sweden preceded her in death.
There was a large attendance of relatives and friends at; the funeral services held here Monday afternoon at Immanuel Lutheran
church, .Rev. David J. Roy officiating. Mrs. Stuart Harris was soloist and Mrs. Henning Shouldberg was organist.Casket bearers were John Frisk, Alvin Frisk, Fred Claesson, Sr. Fred Claesson, Jr., Russell Anderson and Ernest Anderson. Interment was in Adaville E. U. B. Cemetery.
