Nelson “Swabby” Hutton, Jr. 85, of Dakota City, Nebraska formerly of Craig, Iowa passed away Monday, January 10, 2011 at the Nebraska Veteran’s Home in Norfolk, NE.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, January 14, 2011 at the Carlsen Funeral Home in Le Mars. Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. until service time on Friday. Burial with Military Honors provided by the Heeren-McHale-Wilkens American Legion Post #724 will be in St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery, Craig.

Pallbearers will be Dave DeBoom, Brett Hutton, Mike Hutton, Run Ludwigs, Randall Toel, and Rodney Kuecker.

Nelson Hutton Jr. was born November 30, 1926 at Richmond, Indiana to Nelson Sr. and Clara (Eggebrecht) Hutton. He was baptized and confirmed at St. John Lutheran in Craig. Nelson attended received his education in Craig. He served his country during World War II in the United States Navy from February 20, 1945 to July 9, 1946. Following his discharge from the service, Nelson worked as a mechanic for Lawrence VanWyhe for several years. He later went to work for Van’s Truck Salvage in South Sioux City until moving to the Nebraska Veteran Home in Norfolk. He had also worked as a farm hand for several area farmers throughout the years. Nelson enjoyed fishing; especially his yearly trip to the Lake of the Woods in northern Minnesota.

Survivors include his siblings: Eugene Hutton and his wife Cecilia of Sioux City, IA, Arlene Schulz of Le Mars, Coralie Vande Mheen of South Sioux City, Nebraska, Marlin Hutton and his wife Joyce of Windsor, CO, and Roberta Williams and her husband Chuck of O’Neil, NE; a sister-in-law, Carol Hutton of Craig; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Nelson Sr. and Clara (Eggelbrecht) Hutton; a brother, Myron “Red” Hutton; a sister, Barbara Bottjen; a nephew, Doug Hutton; and 2 brothers-in-law, Gilbert “Van” Vande Mheen and Dale Schulz.
