Regine “Jean” Dreckman, 86, of Le Mars passed away peacefully with her family at her side on Sunday January 9, 2011 at her home in Le Mars.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Friday January 14, 2011 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Le Mars, with Reverend Kevin Richter officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Le Mars. Visitations will begin at 3:00 p.m. Thursday at the Carlsen-Feuerstein Funeral Home in Le Mars, where there will be a combined rosary by the Christian Mothers and Catholic Daughters at 4:00 p.m. and a Scriptural Wake Service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will resume on Friday morning at St. Joseph’s Church for one hour prior to the Funeral Mass.

The former Regine Margaret Herrmann was born June 16, 1924 on a farm south of Marcus, Iowa, the daughter of George and Margaret (Wendt) Herrmann. She lived most of her life in Plymouth County and attended rural school. In 1941, during World War II, she completed training in Sioux City for a government job and became employed at Keyport, Washington at a Naval Station where she worked on torpedo’s in the flask department, also water testing retrieved and dock testing the trial runs and some book-keeping in her department. She also attended night classes to complete her education. Her memorabilia and exhibits are on display at the Historic Ford Assembly Building at Richmond, CA. Jean returned to Le Mars in 1946 because her father and sister were in ill health and was needed at home. There she worked for Well’s Dairy and Kohout Cap Factory. She married Reinard “Reine” Joseph Dreckman June 21, 1949 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Le Mars. In 1964 they became owners and operators of Dreckman Taxi Service for 15 ˝ years and later was the Le Mars Bus Depot Agent for 4 ˝ years.

Jean was a longtime member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church and the Church Guild in Le Mars, Christian Mothers Society and Catholic Daughters of America, Court Santa Maria #179.

She enjoyed every moment spent with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She also enjoyed working with her nephew Gene Kempers on family genealogy.

Survivors include her husband Reine Dreckman of Le Mars; two daughters: La Vonne and her husband Dan Brownmiller of Le Mars, and Janice and her husband Roger Goss of Sioux City; a son, Randall Dreckman and his wife Renee of Zearing, IA; eight grandchildren: Bart Brownmiller and his wife Angie of Remsen, Brian Brownmiller and special friend Jessica Lingren of Le Mars, Dawn Brownmiller and her special friend Greg Nattress of Le Mars, Sheila and her husband Corey Dumdei of Sioux Falls, SD, Amy Goss of North Sioux City, SD, Dr. Ryan Goss and Hilary of Omaha, NE, Jessica and her husband Nic Frank of Ankeny, IA, and Kristina Dreckman of Richmond, VA; great grandchildren: Alexandria, Britteny and Damen Brownmiller, Cory and Kaiden Goss, Annissa, Daniel and Preston Kleich, Ethan and Zachary Dumdei, and Cason Goss; many nieces and nephews; and a special first cousin, Nancy and her husband Dennis Norman of Torrence, CA.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Henrietta Herrmann and Ann Korver and her first husband Kenneth Kempers; a brother, John and his wife Annie Herrmann; a brother-in-law, Bill Korver; and several nieces and nephews.
