MRS. VERNON KING DIES OF GUN SHOT INJURIES
Expired Shortly After Being Brought To LeMars Hospital

Mrs. Vernon A. King was found in a dying condition in a brooder house at her farm house in Elgin at about 3 o’clock Sunday afternoon with a 410 shotgun in her hand. An ambulance was called and she was brought to the Sacred Heart Hospital where an examination showed she was shot through the chest. She died about an hour later.

Helen May Brodie was born October 15, 1889, on the Brodie farm near Crathorne, and spent her entire life in Plymouth County. She was married to Arthur Erickson and one so, Wallace Erickson,, now living in Glendale, California, was born to this marriage. Several years after the death of Mr. Erickson by drowning she was married to Vernon A. King, who survives her with two sons, Robert King, who served in the Navy at the Pacific Naval headquarters on Guam, and is now employed at Pensacola, Florida, and Lt. Ross King, who was recently discharged from the Army after extended service in Europe and returned to LeMars on June 30.

She is also survived by her father, M. F. Brodie, and five brothers, Stewart Brodie of Mapleton; Charles Brodie, of Merrill; Ronald Brodie, of Alhambra, Calif.; Will Brodie, of LeMars and Robert Brodie, of Akron.

Mrs. King has been in poor health for several years, suffering a serious nervous breakdown, but had accompanied the family to church Sunday and prepared the noon meal after her return and seemed in normal health and spirits.

The funeral services will be held at Plymouth Presbyterian Church and will be conducted by Rev. John Oerter of the LeMars Presbyterian Church. The exact date and hour will not be determined until members of the family have been heard from. Burial will be in Plymouth cemetery.
