Isabel Plendl, 89, of Le Mars passed away Tuesday, January 4, 2011 at Floyd Valley Hospital in Le Mars.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, January 10, 2011 at St. James Catholic Church in Le Mars with Father Matt Hewitt officiating. Interment will be at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery-Neptune, rural Hinton, Iowa. Visitations will be after 3:00 p.m. Sunday, January 9, 2011 at the Carlsen-Feuerstein Funeral Home in Le Mars with a 4:00 p.m. Parish Rosary followed by a 7:00 p.m. Scriptural Wake Service.

Pallbearers will be Adam Plendl, Ben Plendl, Chris Kessnich, David Britt, Paul Meis, and Rick Schrooten.

Isabel J. Plendl was born August 24, 1921 in Plymouth County, Iowa to Henry and Anna (Wagner) Meis. She was raised on a farm near Oyens and attended school at St. Catherine’s Catholic School in Oyens. As a young woman, Isabel worked as a housekeeper and cook for a local family. Isabel was united in marriage to Roman J. Plendl on April 17, 1945 at St. James Catholic Church in Le Mars. The couple were blessed with one son, Larry. The couple farmed in Stanton Township, near Neptune, until 1992 when they retired to Le Mars. Roman passed away on December 24, 1997.

While living on the farm, Isabel attended daily Mass at St. Joseph Catholic Church-Neptune for years and was also a very active member of the Altar Society. After retiring to Le Mars, Isabel continued going to daily Mass at St. James. Her faith and church was continually a very important part of her life. Isabel was always there to help family and friends. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She enjoyed tating, crocheting, quilting, and playing pinochle with family and friends.

Survivors include her daughter-in-law, Sue Sitzmann of Le Mars; 2 grandchildren, Adam Plendl of Palm Springs, California and Ben Plendl a student at S.D.S.U. in Brookings, SD; a brother and sister-in-law, Art and Christine Meis of Le Mars; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Anna (Wagner) Meis; her husband, Roman J. Plendl; a son Larry Plendl on April 25, 1996; a brother, Joseph Meis; and 2 sisters, Mathilda Meis and Angeline Meis.
