Opal Schmidt

Opal Beatrice Schmidt, 79, of Akron, Iowa, died Monday, Jan. 15, 1996, at the Akron Care Center, following a long illness.

Services will be 10:30 a.m., Thursday, Jan. 18, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Akron, with Rev. Allen Bidne officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday, Jan. 17 from 2 to 8 p.m. with the family present from 7 to 8 p.m. at the Schroeder Funeral Home, Akron. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery. Vocalist Jon Harris will sing "On Eagles Wings" and "He Touched Me." Congregational
hymns include "Beautiful Savior" and "What a Friend." Organist is Marietta Nielsen.

Casketbearers are Vernon Jurgensen, LuVois Schmidt, Raymond Andresen, Virgil Frerichs, Darrell Oltmanns, and Don Schmidt.

Mrs. Schmidt was born Nov. 12, 1916, in Akron, Iowa, the daughter of Russell and Minnie (Jurgensen) Clark. She attended school in Akron. She married Elmer Schmidt in Akron on Nov. 12, 1937. He died in February of 1989. She worked at the Akron Care Center for many years. She enjoyed embroidery and needlepoint. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Akron.

Survivors include one brother and his wife, Arnold and Shirley Clark of Spencer, IA; one sister-in-law, Dotty Clark of Akron, IA; one brother-in-law, Art Pahl of Brunsville, IA; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; one brother, Lloyd; one sister, Berlien Pahl; and one brother-in-law, Albert Oltmanns.
