James A. Slay, 59, died unexpectedly Feb. 26, 1984. at his home, 231 Coronet; San Antonio, Tex. He suffered a heart attack. Funeral was Feb. 28 at Concordia Lutheran Church, San Antonio, with Dr. Guido Merkens officiating. Burial was in the Fort Sam Houston military cemetery.
He was born Jan. 20,1925, to Daniel and Selestine Kessler Slay at Rosebud, Tex. He married Lucille Oetken, Le Mars, March 6,1946, at San Francisco. Mr. Slay served in the Navy during World War II and was called back to active duty during the Korean War. He was a longtime employee of the United States government as an electrical foreman at Kelley Air Force Base.
Survivors are his wife, Lucille; a son, Russell Slay, and his wife and son, Houston, Tex., and a sister, Josephine De Pew of Anchorage, Ala.
Relatives from the Le Mars area attending the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Herman Oetken, Mr. and Mrs. Donald Oetken, Mr. ad Mrs. Leonard Campbell, Lawrence Oetken and Mrs. Tom (Marlene) Arens, Mr. and Mrs. Herman Oetken, Le Mars, returned recently after spending a week visiting with the Slay family in San Antonio.
