Mildred Evelyn Swanson, 78, of Alcester and formerly of Akron, Iowa, died Monday, Nov. 29, 1993, at Morningside Nursing Home in Alcester after a long illness.

Services were held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, December 2 at the Union Creek Lutheran Church, rural Akron with the Rev. William Flemr officiating. Musical selections "Amazing Grace" and "How Great Thou Art" were sung by the congregation, with Donna Swanson as organist.

Burial was in Pleasant Hill Chapel Cemetery, rural Akron, under the direction of Schroeder Funeral Home of Akron. Casketbearers were Eugene Swanson, Verdell Swanson, Alvern Buum, Wayne Buum, Curtis Saugstad and Bob Vreugdenhil.

Mrs. Swanson was born October 4, 1915, near Akron, the daughter of Wilson and Ada (Gardner) Heasley. She attended University High School in Vermillion. She married Herbert Swanson August 8, 1936, near Akron. The couple farmed near Akron
their entire married life until moving to Alcester in 1992. Mrs. Swanson was a former member of Pleasant Hill Chapel, where she held several offices. She was a member of Union Creek Lutheran Church.

Survivors include her husband; a son, David and his wife, Mary of Elk Point; four grandchildren, Eric, Michael, Matthew, and Megan; two sisters, Avis Hilton of Portland, Oregon, and Wilma Morgan of Washington; and a brother, Everett Heasley of Washington.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and three brothers, Earl, Orrin, and Stuart Heasley.
