Ben Hahn funeral rites Thursday

Funeral services for Benjamin Frederick (Ben) Hahn, 61, lifelong Plymouth county resident, will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Calvary United Methodist church in Le Mars. Rev. Tom Balm will officiate. The Mauer funeral home in Le Mars is in charge of cremation and arrangements.

Mr. Hahn was dead on arrival Monday evening at Floyd Valley hospital after suffering an apparent heart attack at his residence.

Ben Hahn was born Jan. 21, 1915, in Plymouth county on a farm which was a part of the Christopher Hahn homestead. His parents were Ella Huebsch and Charles Hahn.

He was married to Clara Schneider, Feb. 27,1943, at Sioux Falls.

Ben was a former manager of the Le Mars municipal airport and Floyd Valley air park and was a flight instructor and NIPCO power line patrol pilot. During world war 2 he trained navy primary and secondary students at Beacon Skyways in Le Mars.

He had enlisted in army air force transport, but the army assigned him to this base as he was a licensed flight instructor.

Mr. Hahn was a member of Calvary United Methodist church, a past master of Giblem Masonic lodge, past patron of Order of Eastern Star, member of the Experimental Aircraft Assn., 0 X 5 Airmen and a charter member of the Airplane Owners and Pilots Assn.

For the last three years he has been a bus driver for the Le Mars Community schools.

Survivors are his wife Clara, Le Mars; two daughters. Mrs. Dennis (Josephine Julia) Green, Alexandria, S D , and Martha Elaine, a senior South Dakota State university, Brookings,and a son, Charles Benjamin, Doon.

Also surviving are a sister. Mildred Eyres, Great Bend, Kan; his grandchildren, Debbie Marie Green, Thomas Clifford Green and Jonathan Marc Green of Alexandria and by several nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Lowell.
