Le Mars Globe Post, Le Mars, Plymouth, Iowa, USA Thursday, March 20, 1952

Mrs. M. Molzen

Mary, nee Muecke, Molzen, daughter of August and Augusta Schulz Muecke, was born August 21, 1864 at Schwuses. Schleisen. Germany.

In 1870. when Mary was 6 years old. the family came to this country. A temporary home was made in Sioux City to earn a living for a destitute family. Two year later 1872 they homesteaded on a farm in Johnson Township, Plymouth County, Iowa. Pioneering on the virgin prairies was accompanied with many hardships for the family. Mary's early life is reminiscent of sod breaking, three year of grasshopper plagues, and a sad lack of communication. A tornado was experienced by the departed in her youth which led to her mother's early death- Numerous family records were lost in the storm, including her baptism and confirmation records. Mary was baptized into the Christian faith in her infancy, and she later confirmed the Christian faith. Eight children were born to the pioneering parents.

October 12. 1887 she entered Holy Wedlock with Hans Peter Molzen. Rev. Wilhelm Koerner performed the ceremony in her parents home in Johnson Township. The newly married couple made their home on farm in Preston Township until they retired to live in Le Mars, Iowa in 1924.

Nine children were born to this happy union, two of whom died in early infancy. Hans Peter and Mary Molzen were charter members of St. John's Lutheran Church. Preston Township. The departed remained as the only charter member until her death.

Hans Peter Molzen died May l3, 1933. His wife Mary continued to live in Le Mars. The departed was blessed with strong health at her life. Her death is attributed to old age. The increasing weight of years kept her much confined to her home the past few years. Since January of this year she steadily became weaker. She passed away quietly Friday night at 11 o'clock March 14. I952, at the age of 87 years, 6 months, and 23 days.

She leaves to mourn 2 daughters, Mrs. Bertha Frerichs. Akron, Iowa, Mrs. Anna Frerichs, Le Mars, Iowa: 5 sons: Henry. Herbert. Walter, Alfred, and Elmer all of Le Mars, Ia., 12 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends.

Mrs. Molzen was widely known. Generally she lived a humble life amid her family. A sharp mind and humor made her very pleasant company. Old age weakened her faculties but she continued patient and content. She is remembered us a fine friend and kindly neighbor, and patient as learned under trials of many years.

She remained faithful to her church, though unable to attend the last few years. To be unable to attend worship services was one of her chief complaints. The Lord's Supper was administered regularly in her home.

Funeral services were held at her home, Monday, March 17, at 1:30 o'clock and at St. John's Lutheran Church, Preston Township at two o'clock. The body was laid to rest the church cemetery. Rev. E. J. Beckmann officiated.

May She Rest In Peace.
