Robert A. Harrison, 80, of Le Mars passed away Wednesday, August 4, 2010 at his home in Le Mars surrounded by his family.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 7, 2010 at the Carlsen Funeral Home in Le Mars with Reverend Greg Gabriel of St. John’s Lutheran Church officiating. Interment will be at Resthaven Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitations will be from 10:00 a.m. until service time on Saturday.

Robert A. Harrison was born December 31, 1929 on the family farm near Le Mars, Iowa to Eugene H. and Amelia E. (Petersen) Harrison. Bob was baptized at St. John Lutheran Church in Merrill and was confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Le Mars. He attended country school and Le Mars Central High School. Bob served his country in the United States Army for 2 years while be stationed at Fort Lawton, Washington. He was united in marriage to Mary Thoms on July 6, 1951 in Worthington, Minnesota.

Bob had attended Iowa Community College in Fort Dodge, Iowa. Bob worked for Frontier Communications, a regional telephone company for 36 years. He had worked as a telephone engineer for the last several years. He had started as a lineman and progressed to working in the Business Office for the last many years of his career. During his career with Frontier, Bob had lived in Le Mars, Fort Dodge, and Burnsville, Minnesota until retiring in 1984 and returning back to Iowa to purchase an acreage near Le Mars.

Bob enjoyed hunting, golfing, fishing, and working on electronics. He took great pride in caring for his acreage. He enjoyed mowing several acres, trimming trees, and even restored an old barn. A lifelong passion for Bob was bowling. He had bowled in 16 national tournaments throughout the years. In his retirement, Bob enjoyed listening to music, he often would spend hours recording old records and 8-tracks onto CD’s for family and friends. He was simply known to his family as the “The King of Putsing”.

Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Mary of Le Mars; 5 children, Robert Harrison Jr. of Fort Dodge, IA, Paul Harrison of Noxon, MT, Keith Harrison and his wife Carol of Fort Dodge, IA, Roxanne Addington and her husband Jon of Sandy, UT, and Mary Jo Mikkelsen of Irene, SD; 9 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren; 2 sisters, Jan Borchers and her husband Tom of Le Mars and Karen Roche of Palm Desert, CA; a brother, Merlin Harrison and his wife Lavon of Tendoy, ID; and several nieces and nephews.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Eugene H. and Amelia E. (Petersen) Harrison; a sister, Wilma Masuen; a brother, Leonard Harrison; and a grandson, Benjamin Addington.
