Tyler Shilling, 37, of Omaha, Nebraska, formerly of Le Mars, Iowa, passed away unexpectedly Saturday, June 5, 2010 at his home in Omaha.

Memorial services will be 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 9, 2010 at Carlsen Funeral Home in Le Mars, Iowa. Reverend Gary Landsness of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Le Mars, Iowa will officiate. Private family inurnment will follow in Memorial Cemetery in Le Mars with military rites conducted by the Wasmer American Legion Post 241 of Le Mars, Iowa. Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. until service time on Wednesday at the funeral home.

Tyler Ryan Shilling was born December 28, 1972 in North Platte, Nebraska, the son of Donald and Alexis (Schwank) Shilling.

Early in his childhood, he moved with his family to Le Mars, Iowa. He graduated from Le Mars Community High School in 1991. He served his country in the United States Army. He was honorably discharged with a medical disability. Tyler lived in several cities before settling in Omaha, Nebraska.

Tyler enjoyed fishing and cooking with his friends and family. He also enjoyed gardening and interacting with friends on Facebook. But most of all, he enjoyed the times spent with friends and family. He enjoyed entertaining his friend’s children. Through all of Tyler’s trials and tribulations, he always remained positive and never lost his sense of humor. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Survivors include his parents, Don and Barb Shilling of Le Mars, Iowa; two sisters: Stacy Shepherd and her husband Brett and their family of Valisca, Iowa, and Lindsey Wheatley of West Des Moines, Iowa; his paternal grandmother: Jo Shilling of Tabor, Iowa; and many aunts, uncles, and special friends.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Alexis; his paternal grandfather: Lloyd Shilling; and maternal grandparents: Butch and Olga Schwank.
