Leon E. Bricker, 80, of Le Mars, Iowa, died Friday, March 2, 2007 at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 6, 2007 at the Carlsen Funeral Home in Le Mars with Reverend Jason Larson of the Le Mars United Methodist Church officiating. Visitations will be after 12:30 p.m. Tuesday until service time. Private family inurnment services will be held at a later date.

Lee was born on January 8, 1927 in Greenfield, Iowa to John W. and Bess (Wyllie) Bricker. After high school graduation he served in the Occupation Army in Germany and upon discharge from the service Lee attended watch making school in Joplin, Missouri. Lee was united in marriage to June Kelley on June 8, 1948 at Waterloo, Iowa. In the 1950’s Lee worked as a watchmaker and owned his own jewelry store in Ackley, Iowa. From 1960 until 1970 Lee worked for Honeywell in Minneapolis as an engineering technician, building and testing the guidance gyroscopes for the series of Apollo spacecrafts. In 1970 the Bricker family moved to LeMars and in 1973 Lee bought the former Bartels and Landhuis jewelry store. He had operated Bricker’s Jewelry for many years and still remained active in the family business with his son Scott.

Leon’s lifelong hobby was building and flying model radio control aircraft. He began with small gliders when he was in high school and over the years mastered construction and flying of radio controlled planes with over five foot wingspans. He was a long-time member of the LeMars RC club. Lee had been a member of the Le Mars Rotary Club and the Wasmer American Legion Post #241.

Leon is survived by his son, Scott Bricker of LeMars and daughter, Jane Lindell and husband Chris of Marion, Iowa. He is also survived by six grandchildren Adrienne, Taylor, Sydney and Simone Bricker and Benjamin and Sarah Lindell; and his aunt Mary Tharp and sister-in-law Mary Bricker of Greenfield, Iowa. He is preceded in death by his wife, parents, two brothers, John and Albert, and a sister, Virginia Rhine.
