Elizabeth Vest, 101, of Norfolk, Nebraska, formerly of Westfield, Iowa, passed away Saturday, September 26, 2009 at St. Joseph Rehab and Care Center in Norfolk, Nebraska.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, September 30, 2009 at the Westfield Congregational Church in Westfield, Iowa. Pastor Barb Ross will officiate. Graveside services will be at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 30, 2009 at Memorial Park Cemetery in Sioux City, Iowa. Visitation with the family present will be on Tuesday, September 29, 2009 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., with a Prayer service at 7:00 p.m., all at Carlsen Funeral Home – Schroeder Chapel in Akron, Iowa.

Elizabeth Helene Vest was born April 28, 1908 on the family farm east of Hinton, Iowa, the daughter of Chris and Rosina (Braun) Weidaman. She was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church, rural Hinton, Iowa. She attended country school southeast of Hinton.

In 1937, she moved to the Westfield, Iowa area. She was employed in various domestic jobs, including caretaker of the Congregational Church for over 30 years. In 1997, she moved to Wayne, Nebraska to be closer to her family. In 2003, she became a resident of St. Joseph Rehab and Care Center in Norfolk, Nebraska.

Elizabeth was a longtime member of the Westfield Congregational Church, having been active in the ladies aide for many years. She always enjoyed helping with all the church events and activities. She also enjoyed gardening, baking, and cooking. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Survivors include her two daughters: Judy Arnett of Escondido, CA, and Carol Janke of Norfolk, NE; 9 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great-grandchildren; a sister: Helen Peters and her husband Raymond of Lawton, IA; a brother: Glen Weidaman of Paulina, IA; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother: Fritz Weidaman; a sister in infancy: Barbara Ellen Weidaman; a sister-in-law: Darlene Weidaman; a son-in-law: Norris Janke; and a son: Merlin Vest on October 29, 1981.
