Neva Hawks, 77, of Akron, Iowa, passed away Friday, May 22, 2009 at her home in Akron.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 27, 2009 at Carlsen Funeral Home – Schroeder Chapel in Akron. Reverend Dawn Quame of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Akron will officiate. Burial will be at a later date in Riverside Cemetery in Akron. Visitation will be after 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 26, 2009, with the family present after 6:00 p.m., and a Prayer service at 7:00 p.m., all at the funeral home.
Neva Augusta Hawks was born January 15, 1932 on the family farm in Union County, South Dakota, the daughter of Andrew and Leota (Bogner) Trometer. She attended country school in Union County and later high school in Akron. She graduated from Akron High School in 1950.
Neva was united in marriage to James “Jim” Hawks on December 8, 1951 in Laverne, Minnesota. Neva worked at the Hi-Way Café and as an egg handler for Sheehan’s in Akron. Later, she was a bookkeeper for Higman Sand and Gravel and the Farmer’s COOP in Akron. Jim passed away March 31, 2006.
Neva was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Akron. She enjoyed bowling, quilting, and gardening. She also enjoyed refinishing antique furniture and woodwork. But most of all, she loved the times spent with her family. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Survivors include her three children: Sharon Klemme and her husband David of Akron, Janet Eskra and her husband Charles of Lincoln, NE, and Mike Hawks and his wife Rhonda of Akron; five grandchildren: Dustin Appley and his wife Melinda, Paul Klemme and his fiancé Morgan Bernard, Melissa Eskra, Douglas Eskra, and Matthew Eskra; eight great-grandchildren and one yet to arrive; a sister: Jeanne McPherson of Hawarden, IA; and a special niece: Kim Hemmelrick and her husband Michael, and their family, Natasha, Kelsey, and MaKayla.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jim; two brothers: Merlin and Melvin Trometer; four sisters: Alice Harvey, Blanche Trometer, Iona Clarey, and Marilyn Titus; and twin granddaughters: Jodi and Jennifer Klemme.
Neva’s family wishes to thank Hospice of Siouxland for their care and compassion.
