Earl Thompson, 87, of Akron, Iowa, formerly of Boone, Iowa, passed away Saturday, April 26, 2008 at the Akron Care Center in Akron, Iowa.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 29, 2008 at Wesley United Methodist Church in Akron. Reverend Laurice Streyffeler will officiate. Visitation will be after 4:00 p.m. Monday, April 28, 2008, with the family present after 6:00 p.m., all at Carlsen Funeral Home – Schroeder Chapel in Akron. Additional services will be held in Boone, Iowa. There will be a Prayer service at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 30, 2008 at the Schroeder Memorial Chapel in Boone, Iowa. Reverend John Swoyer of First Baptist Church in Boone will officiate. Burial will follow in Bass Point Cemetery in Boone with military rites conducted by the Boone Veterans Council. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 29, 2008, with the family present after 6:00 p.m., all at Schroeder Memorial Chapel in Boone. The Carlsen Funeral Home – Schroeder in Akron is in charge of arrangements.

Jasper Earl Thompson was born October 15, 1920 near Beaver in Boone County, Iowa, the eldest of five children to Jasper W. and Ethel (Rinker) Thompson. Earl spent most of his life in Boone County, graduating in 1939 from Boone Public High School as valedictorian of his class.

He was united in marriage to Hazel Ilene Beckett on August 8, 1942 in Boone, Iowa. Together, they had three children, Alan, Warren, and Juhree Rozan.

Earl worked for the Fort Dodge-Des Moines and South Railroads from 1939 until 1950. During that time, he served his country in the United States Army Air Corp from September of 1942 until January of 1946. He was stationed in Northern Africa as a Staff SGT during WWII. After returning to the states, he continued with the Railroad. Later, Earl was an independent farm produce trucker of eggs, cream, and canned milk from 1951 until 1965 when he started work at Luther Feed and Grain in Luther, Iowa. He retired in 1982.

After 50 years of marriage, Ilene died in 1992 and Earl moved to be closer to his son, Warren in Northwest Iowa. On March 31, 2001, Earl married Amelia Henrich.

Earl was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church in Boone, having served many positions within the church. After moving to Akron, he became a member of Wesley United Methodist Church. Earl was a member of the Lantz American Legion Post 56 of Boone and the Hoschler American Legion Post 186 of Akron. Earl was an avid reader of non-fictional history and an amateur gun collector.

Survivors include his 2 sons: Alan Thompson (Pamela) of Scranton, IA and Dr. Warren Thompson (Verna) of Akron, IA; 2 grandsons: Kyle Thompson (Brandy) of Scranton, IA and Shawn Knibbe (Sheryl) of Sioux Center, IA; 4 great-grandsons: Jaron and Joe Thompson and Jeremy and Trevor Knibbe; 2 brothers: James Thompson of Oklahoma City, OK, and John Thompson (Deloris) of New Virginia, IA; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Juhree Rozan in infancy; his parents; his wife, Ilene; two sisters, Bonita Thompson, and Laura Mae Stover.
