Eva Mary Collins was born April 4, 1915 in Whiting, Iowa, the 7th of 10 children born to John and Anna (Baron) Maslonka. She was raised on a farm and attended country school near Walthill, Nebraska.

She was united in marriage to John M. Collins on February 16, 1936 in Walthill. Eva was homemaker for her family and helped her husband on the farm. After farming in several states for many years, they bought a farm 4 miles west of Akron in Union County, South Dakota in 1970. In 1977, they retired and moved to Richland, South Dakota.

John passed away November 4, 1986 at their home in Richland. Eva continued to live in Richland until 1997, when she moved to Akron. She lived in Akron until early 2007, when she became a resident at Hillcrest in Hawarden, Iowa.

When Eva was living in Akron, she attended First Baptist Church. While living in Richland, she enjoyed helping with the ladies aide at the Westfield Congregational United Church of Christ in Westfield. Eva was an avid card player. She also enjoyed auction sales, fishing, gardening, reading, and family meals. She enjoyed music, playing many instruments by ear. She liked dancing; she was active in many dances in her early days. She shared many stories of traveling to local homes for dances. But most of all, Eva enjoyed the times spent with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, family and friends. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Survivors include her 3 children: Thomas John Collins and his special friend, Elaine Reinert of Akron; Marjorie Ann Norem of Arvada, CO, and Carol Jean Klemme and her husband Garry of Akron; 5 grandchildren: Mark Collins (Jenny) of Hawaii, Barbara Arens (Marc) of Le Mars, IA, Dorothy Collins of Arvada, CO, Brian Hemmingson (Joy) of Alcester, SD, Jenye Rubida (Travis) of Plattsmouth, NE; 11 great-grandchildren; one sister: Catherine Dunn (Lewis) residing at the Mason’s home in Plattsmouth, NE; and several nieces and nephews.
