Phil Dowling, 45, of Akron, Iowa, passed away Monday, January 22, 2007 at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, January 27, 2007 at Trinity Lutheran Church, E.L.C.A. in Akron. Reverend Jean Morse will officiate. Burial will follow in the Riverside Cemetery in Akron, Iowa. Visitations will be after 3:00 p.m. Friday, January 26, 2007 with the family present after 6:00 p.m., and a Prayer service at 7:00 p.m., all at the church. The Carlsen Funeral Home – Schroeder Chapel in Akron is in charge of arrangements.

Casket Bearers: Matt Dowling, Sam Waterbury, Randy Waterbury, Randy Utesch, Andy Britt, Lane Hemmelman, Mike Rollins, and Marvin Black.

Honorary Casket Bearers: Jeff Bultman, Jim Dowling, Tony Liston, Pat Wolf, Chris Krause, Tom Budden, Tyler Utesch, Jeff Utesch, Randall Waterbury, and Alex Waterbury.

Philip Lee Dowling was born October 3, 1961 in Akron, Iowa, the son of Hugh and LaVerne (Anderson) Dowling. He was baptized and confirmed into the Christian faith at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Akron. He attended school in Akron and graduated from Akron High School in 1980. Phil was a very loyal employee to many, including for the Akron-Westfield School district where he was a bus driver. He also worked at Central Catering in Hawarden for over 12 years. For the past 13 years, he’s worked for Well’s Dairy in Le Mars. He married Deborah Brown in 1994 in Sioux City. He and Deborah were foster parents to many children.

Phil was a great friend to many in the Akron area. While in high school, he was active in wrestling and football. He enjoyed riding his four-wheeler, mowing his yard, and collecting clocks and movies. He also enjoyed playing the bass guitar, cooking, and weightlifting. He was good at imitating the voices of many celebrities, especially Arnold Schwarzenegger. One of his greatest joys was watching the Green Bay Packers. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Survivors include his siblings: Ruth Bultman and her husband Dennis of Hawarden, IA, Harold Dowling and his wife Carole of Ramsey, MN, Rev. Richard Dowling and his wife Paula of Jefferson, WI, Ramona Liston and her husband Dan of Dakota Dunes, SD, and June Dowling of Le Mars, IA; 3 uncles: Henry Anderson of Sioux City, Milton Anderson and his wife Mary of Akron, IA, and Stanley Anderson and his wife Janet of Akron, IA; 2 aunts: Martha Mae Anderson of Akron, IA and Shirley Smith of American Canyon, CA; several nieces, nephews, great nephews, great nieces, cousins, and special friends, including Randy Utesch and his wife Julie of Akron, IA, Mike and Kathy Rollins of Akron, IA, Sam Waterbury of Akron, IA, Debbie Dowling of Phoenix, AZ, and her son, Norm Brown, and her grandchildren; and many other friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother: John Robert Dowling.
