Helen A. Swoyer, 89, of Akron, Iowa, passed away Wednesday, November 29, 2006 at the Akron Care Center in Akron, Iowa.

Services will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, December 4, 2006 at First Baptist Church in Akron, Iowa with Pastor Damon Green officiating. Burial will follow in the Riverside Cemetery in Akron, Iowa. Visitations will be after 4:00 p.m. Sunday, December 3, 2006 with the family present after 6:00 p.m., and a Prayer service at 7:00 p.m., all at Carlsen Funeral Home – Schroeder Chapel in Akron, Iowa. Visitations will resume 1 hour prior to the service on Monday at the church.

Helen Arlene Swoyer was born July 14, 1917 in Kilbourne, Wisconsin, the daughter of Benjamin and Blanche (Kirk) Tucker. She was baptized and confirmed into the Christian faith. Early in her childhood, she moved with her family to the Richland, South Dakota area. She attended country school in Richland. She graduated from Elk Point High School. Helen was united in marriage to Eldean Swoyer on May 8, 1938 in Elk Point, South Dakota. They farmed near Richland, South Dakota and later near Akron, until retiring in 1984. Eldean passed away October 24, 2002 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

She was longtime member of First Baptist Church in Akron, Iowa. She enjoyed playing cards, reading, and gardening. She also enjoyed knitting and crocheting. She enjoyed craftwork and oil painting. She enjoyed spending time with her friends and family. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Survivors include her children: Sally Wagner of Albany, NY, Rev. John Swoyer and his wife Gloria of Boone, IA, Tom Swoyer and his wife Elaine of Akron, SD, and Orinda Steeneck and her husband David of Beresford, SD; one brother: Clifford Erickson of Tampa, FL; 16 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; sisters: two in infancy and Gladys Fornia; a brother: Kenneth Tucker; and 2 infant grandchildren.
