Ryan Utesch, 22, of Le Mars, passed away Sunday October 24, 2010 east of Akron, Iowa from injuries sustained from a car accident.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, October 28, 2010 at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, Preston Township, rural Akron, Iowa. Reverend Sarah Nye will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be after 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 27, 2010, with the family present after 5:00 p.m., and a Prayer service at 7:00 p.m., all at Carlsen Funeral Home in Le Mars, Iowa. Visitation will resume from 9:30 a.m. until service time on Thursday at the church.

Ryan Gilbert Utesch was born August 9, 1988 in Orange City, Iowa, the son of Stan Utesch and Alice (Smith) Banks. He was baptized and confirmed into the Christian faith at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, Preston Township. He began his schooling in Akron and later in Le Mars. During his time in school, he began helping area farmers. Later, he worked for several companies in the area, including Diamond Pork, Van Vorst Electric, Ground Breakers, and most recently, Kellen Feedlot near Le Mars, Iowa.

He was united in marriage to Meranda Fischer on December 26, 2007, and too this union, a daughter, Tessa Marie Utesch was born. They later separated. Ryan was engaged to be married to Courtney Brian from Le Mars, Iowa.

One of Ryan’s greatest joys in life was helping area farmers and doing farming work. During his years in high school, he was active in F.F.A. Ryan loved the outdoors, especially boating and fishing on the Red River in Minnesota, and playing cards. For the past several years, Ryan enjoyed participating in several demolition derbies in the area. Most of all, Ryan loved the times spent with friends and family, especially his daughter, Tessa. Ryan will be remembered by his willingness to always be there to lend a helping hand whenever needed. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Survivors include his father, Stan Utesch of Brunsville, IA; his mother: Alice Banks of Le Mars, IA; his daughter: Tessa Marie Utesch of Le Mars, IA; his fiancé: Courtney Brian of Le Mars, IA; his siblings: Brandon Utesch (Jodie) of Orange City, IA, Moriah Detloff (Dean) of Le Mars, IA, and Kayla Phillips (Cedric) of Merrill, IA; maternal grandmother: Inez Heien (Kenneth) of Le Mars, IA; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents: Merlin and Dorothy Utesch; his maternal grandfather: Charles Smith; his great grandmother: Elizabeth Haage; and his uncle: Roger Utesch.
