Frank A. Orban, 94, of Le Mars, died suddenly Sunday, Oct. 3, 2010, at Floyd Valley Hospital in Le Mars.

Frank Alphonse Orban was born Nov. 13, 1915, on the family farm in Johnson Township, rural Plymouth County, the son of John and Mary (Dondlinger) Orban. Frank attended country school near his home. As a young man, Frank began farming with his father, John Orban.

Frank was united in marriage to Viola Feller Jan. 28, 1938, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Le Mars. To this union, five sons were born: Keith, Eugene, Larry, Armand, and Kenneth.

The couple farmed and raised livestock on their farm in Johnson Township until retirement in November of 1986 when they moved to Le Mars. While living on the farm, Frank and Viola attended St. Joseph Catholic Church-Ellendale for many years. When they moved to Le Mars, they became members of St. James Catholic Church.

During retirement, Frank enjoyed his large garden in town, playing cards with family and friends, playing checkers, and spending time with his children and grandchildren. He loved the outdoors and was intrigued with Allis Chalmers tractors. He will be remembered for his sense of humor and one-liners he often shared with others.

Survivors include his wife of 72 years, Viola Orban of Le Mars; five children, Keith Orban and his wife, Marge of Le Mars, Eugene Orban and his wife, Carole of Le Mars, Larry Orban and his wife, Marge of Le Mars, Armand Orban and his wife, Julie of Deming, N.M., and Kenneth Orban and his wife Susan of Le Mars; 16 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Marcella Huls of Le Mars; a sister-in-law, Cecelia Plendl of Sioux City; and several nieces and nephews.

Frank was preceded in death by his parents, John and Mary (Dondlinger) Orban; siblings: Joe Orban, Mayme Harms, Justine Feller, Clara Wilmes, Elizabeth Huls, Kathryn Schipper, and three brothers in infancy, Nick Alfred, and John Orban.

Mass of Christian Burial will 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. James Catholic Church in Le Mars with the Rev. Matt Hewitt officiating. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery in Le Mars. Visitation will be after 3 p.m. Wednesday at the Carlsen-Feuerstein Funeral Home with a 4 p.m. parish rosary followed by a 7 p.m. scriptural wake service. Visitation will continue Thursday morning at the church from 9:30 a.m. until service time.

Pallbearers will be Rick Orban, Brian Orban, Scot Orban, Eric Orban, Adam Orban, Teresa Wheelock, Sondra Singer, and Karen Fischer.
