DEATH COMES TO MRS. RUTH HOFFMAN LAST THURSDAY
Rites Held Monday For Resident Here Of Over Fifty Years
Mrs. Ruth Hoffman, a resident of Akron vicinity for more than fifty years, passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Delia Waterbury northwest, of town, Thursday evening February 23, 1950, at the age of 8 years, 8 months and 1 day.
Ruth Harkness, daughter of Ace and Louyza Harkness was born July 22, 1860, in Illinois. When she was two years old, her parents moved with her to the city of Cedar Falls, Iowa From there they later, moved O'Brien county, in northwest Iowa where she grew to young womanhood. On October 21, 1880, she was united in marriage with Frank Hoffman, and three sons and four daughters were born to them. In 1894 they moved to Oklahoma in a covered wagon, when they remained for one year. They then came to Akron, which has since remained her home.
Her husband preceded her in death a number of years ago.
Left to mourn the departure of a kind and devoted mother are five children, Charles Hoffman, of Sioux City; Ira and George Hoffman and Mrs. Delia Waterbury, of Akron, and Mrs. Cecelia Hunnel, of Redondo Beach, Calif.; also by three brothers James Harkness, of Sioux City; Ace and Del Harkness, of Akron; two sisters, Mrs. Fannie Williams, of Snohomish, Wash., and Mrs. Nellie Zevenbergen, formerly of Mingo, Iowa; 32 grandchildren, 44 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.
Funeral Services were held Monday afternoon in the Church of Christ conducted by Rev Dean Orris. Singing was by Mrs.. Francis Mackey and Mrs. Mildred Klemme with Mrs. Elmer Fickbohm as accompanist. Interment was in Riverside cemetery.
