Reaka M, Baack, 89, of Le Mars, IA, died on Friday, March 15,1996, at Brentwood Good Samatitan Center in Le Mars. Services were held on Tuesday, March 19,1996, at Grace Lutheran Church in Le Mars, the Reverend Larry Fett officiating. Burial was in St. John Lutheran Church Cemetery in Craig, IA, under the direction of the Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars.
Mrs. Baack, the former Reaka Marie Cramer, was born April 2, 1906, on her parents' farm in Grant Township, rural Plymouth County, IA. She attended country school in Grant Township and married Edward Baack on September 19, 1929, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Sioux City, IA. Mr. Baack died in 1977. The couple farmed in the Craig and Struble, IA areas prior to moving to Le Mars in 1954. Mrs. Baack provided child care in her home for many years, and was like a grandmother to many of these children. Mrs. Baack was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Le Mars. She enjoyed sewing, knitting, and baking wedding and birthday cakes.
Survivors include two daughters and their husbands, Jan and Garry Rachuy of Le Mars, and Janyce and Dick Schietzelt of Sioux City; a sister, Vera Oiler of Rapid City, SD; and six grandchildren, Scott Rachuy, Rick and Juli Singer, Kris DeRocher, Sherrie Moritz and Rebecca Schietzelt She was also preceded in death by an infant daughter, Joan; four brothers; and four sisters.
