Joseph L. Welch, 23, Yankton, S.D. died unexpectedly Thursday, May 31, 1990 at his residence in Yankton.

Services were held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Akron. Monsignor Gerald Lyon officiated. Burial was in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Akron, under direction of Schroeder Funeral Home in Akron.

Casketbearers were Bernard Welch, Jr., Ian Vic, Dave Drevecky, Pat Slowey, Bob Myers, Brian Osterbuhr, and Leonard Welch.

Joseph Welch was born Feb. 11, 1967, in Akron, son of Eugene and Marlene (Osterbuhr) Welch. He started elementary school at Westfield Community, and in 1978 moved with his family to Crofton, Neb. He attended Sacred Heart Junior high in Yankton. He graduated from Yankton High School, where he was a member of the National Honor Society. He attended Mount Marty College for two years. He had worked at the Sacred Heart hospital as a supervisor in the dietary department.

He then worked for Mossberg Sanitation doing janitorial work. He was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church in Menominee, Neb.

Survivors include a son, Owen of Yankton; his father, Eugene of Crofton; two brothers, Jim of Crofton and John of Yankton; a special friend, Renee Copper of Yankton; and grandmothers, Lucille Welch and Irene Osterbuhr, both of Akron.
