DEATH CONES TO UNION COUNTY MAN
Chas. P. Clarence had worked At Blacksmith Trade Many Years Mention was made in these columns last week of the death of Charles F. Clarence at his home west of Akron, in-Union county, S. D., on Tuesday, June 12, 1945, at 9:30 a. m., following a stroke which he had suffered on the 2nd of June. His age was 80 years, 3 mouths and 3 days.
Charles F. Clarence was born October 9, 1864, at Henry, Ill. He grew to manhood in the neighborhood of his birthplace. On June G, 1887, he was united in marriage, with Miss Kate Rotterman, the marriage taking place at Princeville, Ill. In 1900 they moved with their family to Durham, Missouri, where he worked at his blacksmith trade until in 1924, when they located at Richland, S. D., where he continued to operate a black.-smith shop until the condition of his health made it impossible for him to work at such strenuous labor. Mr. and Mrs. Clarence united with the Baptist Church in 1914, while living at Durham, Mo., but since moving to Richland they have worked with the Methodist church there.
Besides his wife, he is survived by two daughters and their families and one brother and his family. The daughters are Mrs. Retta Thale, of Quincy, Ill, and Mrs. Mildred Lake, of Akron, Iowa. The surviving brother, Albert Clarence, still lives at Henry, Ill., the original home of the family.
Mr. Clarence was an industrious, dependable citizen, an active Christian and a loving husband and father. The bereaved relatives have the condolence of their many friends.
Brief services were held last Thursday afternoon at the Rossow Funeral Home here before going to the Methodist Church at Richland, S.D., the funeral services there being conducted by the pastor, Rev. A.A. Howe. Interment was in Riverside Cemetery, Akron.
