Velva Rose Ford, nee Brangwin, was born into eternal life with our Savior Jesus Christ at the age of 92 at her home in Tempe, Ariz., Saturday, Sept. 4, 2010.
She was born in Le Mars, and graduated from Le Mars High School. Velva attended nursing school at the University of Iowa and became a registered nurse. Her career involved working in various hospitals including Sacred Heart Hospital and as a visiting nurse for Western Union in Chicago.
She was confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church in Le Mars and was a 40-year member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Tempe.
Velva married Edgar Lee Ford March 21, 1947, and enjoyed 51 years of marriage.
Her hobbies included painting and volunteerism for various causes, including cancer and voting registration.
She leaves with all of us her sense of humor, her caring and compassionate nature and her ability to face with courage the many challenges of life. The memory of her strength makes it possible for all of us to go forward. We will remember her often and think of how she has made a difference in all of our lives.
Survivors include her brothers, John and Joe Brangwin; her daughters, Mary Goidich and Nancy Cooper; grandchildren, Paul and Aaron Goidich, Alicia Goldin, Kimberly Wilson and Brian Sapp. Other family members who will greatly miss her are Virginia Brangwin, Virginia (Dinny) Brangwin and James Cooper.
Velva was preceded in death by her parents Mathilda and John H. Brangwin and her brothers, Donald and Earl Brangwin.
A visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m., Friday, Sept. 17, at Tempe Mortuary, 405 E. Southern Ave. in Tempe. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 18, at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, 715 W. Southern Ave. in Tempe.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be sent to the church in Velva's name.
