Martha L. Powell, 65 of Rutland, S.D. died Thursday, Oct. 8, 1992 at McKennan hospital in Sioux Falls, S.D.

Funeral services were held Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Heritage Funeral Home Chapel in Sioux Falls, Pastor Dale Zastrow officiated. Organist "Just a Closer Walk With Thee". Burial was in the Brule Creek Lutheran Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Troy Powell, Jason Peterson, Jarvis Peterson, William Meins, Arnold Knecht, and Martin Toben.

Martha L. Powell was born April 26, 1927, at Chatsworth, Iowa, daughter of Gerhard and Catherine Johnson. She grew up and attended school in Westfield, Iowa. She married Don Powell August 28, 1946 in Akron, Iowa. They made their home in Alcester until 1972, when they moved to a farm near Rutland, S.D. They remained on the farm until their retirement. She was a member of Grace Lutheran church in Nunda and Women of Life

Survivors include her husband, Don of Rutland; two sons, Dennis and his wife, Pam, and their children Shaunna and Troy of Rutland, and Wendell and his wife, Dianna, and their children, Tami and Travis of Trent, S.D.; one daughter, Susan and her husband, Douglas Beeck, and their children, Nathan and Nicole of San Jose, Calif.; two great-grandchildren; one brother, Harvey of Freeport, Ill..; seven sisters, . Mrs. Gaylord (Alma) Morrison of South Beloit, Ill.., Mrs. Eva Taylor of Redmond, Oregon, Mrs. Gladys Toben of Akron, Mrs. Evelyn Taylor of Fairmont, N.D., Mrs. George (Ella) Beeler of Alcester, Mrs. Josie DeRaad of Chatsworth and Mrs. Irene Nielsen of Janesville, Wis.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother and one sister.
