Funeral Services Held For Philip A. Kuchel

Philip Arthur Kuchel, 86, of Kingsley died Thursday, January 6, 2000, at Kingsley Nursing and Rehab Center.

Services were at 10:30 a.m. Monday, January 10, 2000 at Kingsley United Methodist Church with the Rev Paul Evans officiating. Burial was in Kingsley Cemetery under the direction of Earnest-Michaelson Funeral Home in Kingsley.

Roxanne Stauch, soloist, sang “On Eagle’s Wings” and “I Am Coming Home.” Dorothy Berens was organist.

Casket bearers were Bob, Jeff, Chad, Nick and Cody Kuchel. Travis and Derek Chinn, Lance and Justin Howe.

Mr. Kuchel was born Feb. 20, 1913, in Holstein, Iowa, the son of Philip and Minnie (Lage) Kuchel. He moved with his family to a farm near Kingsley when he was 6 years old. He attended Kingsley High School.

He married Maxine Steffe on May 18, 1937 in Kingsley. He served his country during World War II with the Work Projects Administration, where he learned painting and carpentry.

Following his return to the Kingsley area, he became a general contractor doing construction and painting. He also was a land developer and built many houses in Kingsley and the surrounding area.

He was a member of Kingsley United Methodist Church and Cosmos Masonic Lodge 470, where he was a past Master. He served on the Kingsley City Council. He enjoyed spending time at his lake home on East Lake Okoboji.

Survivors include his wife, six sons and their wives, Don and Twila of Brandon, S.D., Terry and Deborah of Tucson, Ariz., Ken and Doneen, Mark and Barb and Kevin and Shari, all of Kingsley, and Blaine and LuAnne of Spirit Lake, Iowa; two daughters, Deb and her husband, Lowell Chiunn and LuAnne Ruba, all of Kingsley; 20 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; three brothers and their wives, Russell and Keith of Montana, Berried “Buck” and Carol of Arizona, and Gaylen and Wanda of Omaha; and a sister-in-law, Dorothy Kuchel of Mechanicsville, Iowa/ He was preceded in death by two brothers, two sisters and a daughter-in-law.
