John C. "Cliff" Kilstrom, 77, Westwood Convalescent and Rest Home, died Tuesday, April 21, 1992, at the nursing home after a long illness.
Services were Friday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel in Sioux Qty. Pastor Fred Lubs and Pastor Joan Mau of Trinity Lutheran Church officiated. Vocalist was Robert Hansen, who sang, "On Wings of Eagles" and "How Great Thou Art", accompanied by Mark Haberman, organist. Burial was in Riverside Cemetery in Akron.
Casket bearers were David Kilstrom, Kevin Kilstrom, Brian Kilstrom, Steve Kilstrom, Kent Kilstrom and William Claassen.
Mr. Kilstrom was born Aug. 12, 1914, in Chicago, son of Axel and Karin Kilstrom. He moved with his family to a farm south of Akron in 1918. He graduated from Akron High School in 1932. He married Matilda "Til" Claassen June 13, 1938.
He was employed at banks in Akron and Kalmath Falls, Ore., before coming to the Livestock National Bank in Sioux City in 1942. He was traffic manager for D.K. Baxter Co. for nine years before becoming an agent for American Family Insurance. Later he worked for Madison Appliance, Krogh's Coast-to-Coast, and Knapp and Spencer, retiring in 1980.
Mr. Kilstrom was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Landmark Lodge 103 AF&AM and a charter member of the Sioux City Exchange Cub.
Survivors include two sons, John of Crest wood, Mo., and Robert of Bettendorf, Iowa; three grandsons, David of Charlack, Mo., and Brian and Kevin, both of Bettendorf; and two sisters-in-law, Lula Gaassen of Sioux City and Marion Kilstrom of Akron.
He was preceded in death by his wife; and a brother, Gordon.
