Albert "Bud" Buys, 83, of rural Le Mars, died Friday, Feb. 2, 2007, at Plymouth Manor Care Center in Le Mars.

Albert "Bud" Buys was born Sept. 6, 1923, near Milnerville in rural Plymouth County, Iowa, the son of Abraham and Anna (De Hann) Buys. He attended school near Merrill and graduated from Merrill High School. He helped his father on the family farm in Plymouth County and continued farming after his father's untimely death.

He was united in marriage to Alma Mae Willer on Aug. 16, 1959, at Adaville United Methodist Church. He and his wife farmed for many years. Bud was a caregiver for his mother. Alma died March 19, 1992 in Le Mars.

Albert was currently a resident at Plymouth Manor Care Center in Le Mars.

He was a longtime member of Adaville United Methodist Church and Plymouth County Farm Bureau. He enjoyed attending the annual Plymouth County Fair. Farming and his family was his life. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Survivors include his three children, Martin Buys of Le Mars, Jim Buys and his wife Kay of Ankeny, and George Buys of Le Mars; three grandchildren, Andy, Jacob, and Emily Buys of Ankeny; a sister-in-law, Edna Huser of Knoxville, Tenn.; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; three brothers, Henry and John, and one in infancy; two sisters, Marie Kent and Antonia Dickenson; and a daughter in infancy, Ruth Buys.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Adaville United Methodist Church, rural Merrill, with Ted W. Stowers officiating. Burial will follow in Pleasant Valley Cemetery, rural Merrill. Visitation will be after 4 p.m., today (Monday) with the family present after 6 p.m., and a prayer service at 7 p.m., all at the church. Visitation will resume one hour prior to the services on Tuesday at the church. The Carlsen Funeral Home - Schroeder Chapel in Akron is in charge of arrangements.
